Texan band Midlake return to the UK next early next year in support of their long-awaited new album The Courage Of Others.
Having sold-out their New to Q show at London’s Tabernacle in under 2 hours, and with just a few tickets remaining for their other January warm-up dates, the group have just announced news of a second UK tour in February at much bigger venues, including a performance at Glasgow’s ABC on February 15.
The follow-up to 2006′s breakthrough The Trials Of Van Occupanther, The Courage Of Others sees the band trading the wistful 1970s soft rock of that album for a slightly earlier British folk sound. Frontman Tim Smith says the new songs also move away from the character-based songs of Van Occupanther to subject matter closer to his heart.
‘I don’t feel I’m looking at the songs through someone else’s eyes,’ Smith says. ‘I’ve tried to keep it as true to myself as I could.’
Guitarist Eric Pulido adds, ‘We didn’t want to make the same album as Van Occupanther, so we carried on moving and creating and pushing for a newer sound and emotion.’
Midlake play:
Friday 22 January – NEWCASTLE – The Cluny (£12.50)
Saturday 23 January – LEICESTER – The Musician (£12.50)
Sunday 24 January – CAMBRIDGE – Junction2 (£12.50)
Wednesday 27 January – NORWICH – Arts Centre (£12.50)
Thursday 28 January – LONDON – Tabernacle (New to Q) (sold out)
Fri 12 February – BRISTOL – Anson Rooms (£15)
Sun 14 February – DUBLIN – Vicar St (20 Euro)
Mon 15 February – GLASGOW – ABC (£15)
Tues 16 February – BIRMINGHAM – Town Hall (£15)
Weds 17 February – MANCHESTER – Academy (£15)
Thurs 18 February – LONDON – Shepherds Bush Empire (£16.50)
Tickets for the Glasgow show can be purchased from O2 ABC
The Courage Of Others is released on Bella Union on February 1.
